Guidelines and Rules for the Sioux Lookout Renassaince Fair Costume Contest on August 10th, 2024.
Attention all Sioux Lookout Renaissance Fair enthusiasts! Get ready to show off your costume skills and have a blast at our upcoming costume contest. That's right, you heard it here first!
There will be two categories for all ages to compete in: one for children ages 12 and under, and another for those 13 and up. The younger category will focus on the theme and spark of the costume, while the older category will be judged on three criteria: craftsmanship, integrity, and fluidity.
For the children's category, we want to see costumes that truly reflect your own unique flair. Bonus points will be awarded for using a higher percentage of raw materials, found items, or altered garments. Let your creativity and originality shine through in the theme and spark of your costume. Are you a stoic knight, a fierce pirate, a spooky witch, or a friendly druid?
Participants in the 13 and up category will be judged on the quality, technique, complexity, and inventiveness of their costume, as well as the originality, interpretation, and likeness if the costume is based on an existing character. We also want to see how well your character and costume come to life through body language and performance.
To ensure a fun and inclusive event for all, we have a few general qualifications and rules for both categories. Costumes must be tasteful and cover appropriate body parts (let's keep it PG, folks!). Children must have an accompanying adult, and all contestants should be willing to participate on their own terms. We also prohibit profanity, obscene hand gestures, hate speech, spitting or spraying of any fluids, flames, fireworks, smoke, lasers, and any other dangerous or disruptive elements. Electronic flashing lights are allowed as long as they do not pose a danger or disturbance to others. We also ask that fans and friends of contestants be respectful to other participants and refrain from shouting negative comments or engaging in any form of bullying.
We want everyone to have a great time and feel comfortable participating, so let's make this a fun and friendly competition.
